Practical International Data Management - Geminated names/Reduplicated names

Personal names may contain geminated strings, i.e. the same given name twice or the given name being the same as the family name. This is not as rare as one might think.

• Jerome K. Jerome (author, British)
• Boutros Boutros-Ghali (Secretary General of the United Nations, Egyptian)
• Sirhan Sirhan (Assassin of Robert F. Kennedy, Jordanian)
• Dr. Hassan Hassan (Syrian)
• Gregory Gregory (son of American comedian Dick Gregory, American)
• Sitwell Sitwell (Politician, British)
• Neville Neville, (Sportsman, British).
• Dieudonne M'bala M'bala, (Comedian, French)

Processing

• Do not program to exclude geminated names under the assumption that they are always pseudonyms or entry errors.
